How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?
Rhinoplasty is considered an outpatient surgical procedure. Throughout nose surgery, the patient is asleep under IV sedation or general anesthesia. Depending on the type of rhinoplasty performed, Dr. Elias may either use an open or closed (endonasal) technique. He will cut an incision and lift the skin in order to rearrange the bone and cartilage within the nose. The specifics of rhinoplasty will vary according to your unique needs and goals. Once the nasal features are repositioned, the skin is draped over the newly structured framework and sutured closed.
After rhinoplasty, our team will closely monitor you and then release you to go home. You can expect to have swelling and bruising for several days after your procedure. To help with these effects, we recommend cold compresses and pain medication. It generally takes about 2 – 4 weeks to heal after cosmetic or functional nose surgery. Be sure to avoid strenuous activity and rest as much as you can to help speed your recovery.

About UsRhinoplasty FAQs
Is rhinoplasty covered by insurance?
While cosmetic rhinoplasty is not paid for by insurance, if your nose reshaping surgery is considered medically necessary to improve your breathing, some of your costs may be covered. If you may be applying for reimbursement from your insurance, please tell Dr. Elias in your consultation. We can help you submit any needed paperwork and information to your insurance provider to process your claim.
Are there nonsurgical options to change my nose?
Yes, there are. If you want to smooth lumps and bumps on your nose, a hyaluronic acid-based wrinkle filler (like Juvéderm or Restylane) may be an option. An injectable filler can temporarily correct minor imperfections on your nose, which might help you decide if you want to get a rhinoplasty. Nose surgery is better for long-lasting results, larger changes, and adjusting the internal structure of the nose for better function. At your consultation, Dr. Elias can tell you more about nonsurgical nose reshaping.
What about ethnic rhinoplasty?
Ethnic rhinoplasty is about improving the nose while maintaining your cultural identity. This may be a consideration if you are Asian, African-American, or Middle Eastern. During your consultation with Dr. Elias, you can discuss what you want to keep and what you would like to change. This will allow him to customize your treatment plan to help you achieve the best results.
Can I combine rhinoplasty with other facial surgeries?
Yes, you can. Some patients think about combining nose surgery with another procedure, like cheek or chin augmentation. Having multiple surgeries for a more dramatic result can be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Elias. Once he understands your goals, he can help you choose which procedures should be in your custom plan. Nose reshaping surgery can help your whole face appear more balanced and harmonious, so you should wait to see your results before considering another procedure.
