The pink, smooth skin inside your mouth is called mucosa, and it is an important tool in identifying if you may be developing an oral disease. Discoloration, soreness or rashes that develop here are often a signal that something in your body is not right. If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact our office at (818) 616-6685 immediately for a comprehensive examination:

  • Red or white patches in the mouth
  • A sore that does not heal and bleeds easily
  • Chronic sore throat
  • Difficulty chewing or swallowing
  • The development of a lump or significant thickening of the mucosa

These symptoms may appear anywhere in the region of the mouth including cheeks, palate, lips and gum tissue surrounding the teeth, tongue, face and neck. Oral pathology does not always have associated pain. In fact, oral cancer is rarely diagnosed by pain. However, if you are experiencing facial or oral pain without cause or have any of the above symptoms, seek immediate treatment.

We recommend performing a monthly oral cancer self-examination. Do not ignore lumps or sores that seem suspicious or new. Contact us immediately so that we can help. Dr. Elias specializes in the management of jaw and facial tumors and will work with your primary dentist or physician to ensure accurate diagnosis and collaborate on treatment. Your health and safety are his main priority.
