Many of us have heard the term “man boobs” before, but the term is formally known as a Gynecomastia condition common in both men and boys. This condition is more common in newborn males, boys during puberty, and older men, and entails when men’s breasts swell and become abnormally large. The condition can also be hereditary or even the result of drug use.
While the diagnosis of Gynecomastia doesn’t typically have any serious problems to men’s health, it can be a difficult condition for men to deal with psychologically and socially. Approximately 1 in every 18 males is affected by Gynecomastia, that’s about 15 million people in the United States alone!
While most cases of Gynecomastia tend to go away on their own, many severe and more permanent cases exist. Since the condition is caused by extra breast tissue, not fat, exercise and weight lose will not get rid of it. The treatments we offer for patients with Gynecomastia consist of liposuction and an excisional surgery.
Liposuction is used to correct the contours caused by the excess fat. The excisional surgery corrects the problem by excess glandular tissue being cut out. Since Gynecomastia is a rather common condition in men, it is no surprise that many male celebrities have also been affected by the condition. From comedy actor, Jack Black, to American Idol Producer, Simon Cowell, many of today’s men celebrities also develop man boobs from this condition. Even wrestler and actor, “The Rock” received a Gynecomastia procedure in 2005.
